Why I Created Dear Paw — Because Pets Have Always Meant More to Me
Dear Paw did not begin with a business plan.
It began with love.
I have always loved animals, but my story with dogs became much bigger than I ever imagined.
It started with one dog.
Then came the second.
Then the third.
Before I knew it, my home was filled with little paws, wagging tails, different personalities, and the sounds of dogs becoming a part of everyday life.
But that wasn't where the story ended.
My dogs began having puppies of their own.
One became two, two became more, and eventually, there were twelve dogs in my life.
They were not numbers.
They were my children.
Twelve Little Lives
At one point, a veterinary hospital contacted me because some of the puppies were incredibly small and beautiful. They asked if I would consider letting the puppies be adopted through the hospital.
But to me, there was never really a choice.
They were all my babies.
I couldn't look at them and think of them as puppies that could simply be given away.
So I kept them all.
Many of them were extremely tiny teacup dogs, and because they were so small, they were also very fragile.
Taking care of them meant paying attention to the smallest things.
Their food.
Their comfort.
Their behavior.
The way they slept.
The way they looked at me.
The little changes that might have meant they weren't feeling well.
When you live with that many little lives, you learn something very quickly.
You become deeply aware of how precious each one is.
Then One Day, I Had to Say Goodbye
One day, one of my little ones suddenly crossed the rainbow bridge.
There was no way to prepare my heart for it.
I had twelve dogs.
I thought perhaps having so many would somehow make me more familiar with saying goodbye.
Maybe I would become stronger.
Maybe I would learn how to accept it.
But the opposite happened.
Every goodbye hurt.
And as I had to say goodbye to one little life after another, the grief became heavier.
I began experiencing what is often called pet loss grief.
I had loved them for so long, cared for them every day, and built so much of my life around them.
When one of them was suddenly gone, it wasn't simply that a pet was missing from the house.
A part of my everyday life was missing.
A familiar sound.
A little face.
A place they used to sleep.
The feeling of knowing they were there.
Even the smallest things could remind me of them.
I thought I would eventually get used to saying goodbye.
But I didn't.
The grief became so deep that it began affecting my everyday life and even my work.
That was when I realized something I had never fully understood before.
Pets Are Never “Just Pets”
To someone who has never experienced it, losing a pet might sound like losing an animal.
But when you have shared your days, your home, your routines, and your heart with them, it feels completely different.
They become part of your family.
Part of your memories.
Part of who you are.
And when they leave, the love doesn't disappear with them.
It stays.
Maybe that is why losing them hurts so much.
Because the sadness is simply another side of the love we had for them.
This Is Part of Why Dear Paw Exists
My experience changed the way I look at pets.
I became more aware of the little things that make their lives comfortable.
A place where they can rest peacefully.
A toy that makes them happy.
Something that keeps them entertained.
A comfortable space that feels like their own.
Small things can seem ordinary to us.
But for a pet, those little things become part of their everyday world.
That is one of the reasons I created Dear Paw.
I didn't want to create just another pet store filled with products.
I wanted to create a place that came from a genuine understanding of how deeply these little lives can become part of ours.
Because I know what it feels like to love them.
I know what it feels like to care for them.
And I know what it feels like when one of them is no longer there.
For Every Little Life We Love
There are still many memories I carry with me.
Twelve little lives changed my life in ways I never expected.
They taught me that love does not have to be spoken.
Sometimes it has four little paws.
Sometimes it waits for you by the door.
Sometimes it follows you from room to room.
And sometimes, even after they are gone, their place in your heart never disappears.
That is what I want Dear Paw to remember.
Every product may be small.
Every moment may seem ordinary.
But behind every pet is a life that someone loves deeply.
So Dear Paw is for the walks, the playtime, the quiet afternoons, the messy moments, the cuddles, and all the ordinary days that become precious memories.
Because they were never just pets to me.
They were family.
And Dear Paw was created from that love — for all the little lives we are lucky enough to love.
